Uricase

Alternative Names: Urate Oxygen, Urate Oxidase, Uricase, Oxidoreductase, UOX, UO, EC 1.7.3.

Urate oxidase is an enzyme that breaks down uric acid into a soluble and inactive metabolite called allantoin. Allantoin is significantly more soluble than uric acid, about 5 to 10 times more. Urate oxidase is an enzyme found in various organisms, but not in higher primates like humans. Hyperuricaemia, an excess of uric acid in the blood, is commonly associated with gout and also occurs in mammals with certain types of cancer, particularly those with lymphoid malignancies. This is because these cancers have rapid cell turnover and increased purine metabolism. Urate oxidase is effective in preventing and treating hyperuricaemia in mammals with cancer and in individuals who have undergone transplantation. It acts quickly and safely, leading to a significant decrease in plasma levels of uric acid.

Product Description

Recombinant Urate Oxidase is an enzyme that plays a significant role in the metabolism of uric acid, converting it into a more soluble compound, allantoin. Belonging to the family of oxidoreductases, this enzyme facilitates the breakdown of uric acid, a byproduct of purine metabolism, thereby preventing its accumulation and subsequent formation of urate crystals. With a molecular weight of approximately X kilodaltons, recombinant urate oxidase offers potential therapeutic applications in managing conditions such as gout and tumor lysis syndrome by efficiently reducing uric acid levels.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized Urate Oxidase although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution Uricase should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C. Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

We highly recommend reconstituting the lyophilized Uricase in 50mM borate buffer containing 0.001%Triton X-100 and 1.0mM EDTA, pH 8.5 for activity assay.
