UGT8

Alternative Names: Not Available

UDP Glycosyltransferase 8 (UGT8) is a vital enzyme belonging to the UDP-glycosyltransferase family. UGT8 plays a key role in the biosynthesis of galactocerebrosides, a type of sphingolipids found abundantly in the myelin membrane of the central nervous system and peripheral nervous system. Specifically, UGT8 facilitates the transfer of galactose to ceramide, an essential enzymatic process in this biosynthesis.

Product Description

Recombinant Human UDP Glycosyltransferase 8 (UGT8) is an enzyme that plays a significant role in the glycosylation of various endogenous and exogenous compounds. Belonging to the UDP glycosyltransferase family, UGT8 is involved in the transfer of sugar moieties from UDP-sugars to a wide range of acceptor molecules. With a molecular weight of approximately [insert weight], UGT8 catalyzes the addition of glycosyl groups to substrates, thereby modulating their solubility, stability, and biological activity. This enzymatic activity is crucial for numerous physiological processes, including metabolism, detoxification, and the biosynthesis of glycoproteins and glycolipids.

Storage Instruction

Reconstituted store at -20°C or -80°C.We recommend that single use aliquots are prepared to avoid freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

1. Thaw the vial on ice, spin briefly
2. Prepare single-use or stock aliquots. This stage will depend on your final application so please adapt as appropriate. All our proteins are supplied carrier protein-free. If compatible with your work and you are storing at lower concentrations (<50 ug/ml) adding carrier protein is highly advised (usually 1% w/v high purity BSA or equivalent – ensure all buffers are sterile-filtered).
3. Prepare single-use aliquots whenever possible to avoid freeze-thaw cycles which can damage the proteins and reduce bioactivity. Store aliquots at -70 °C (or -20 °C)
4. We recommend sterile filtering after dilution in media or the final working solution
