IL-13 is an immunoregulatory cytokine primarily produced by activated Th2 cells. It plays a role in B-cell maturation and differentiation by increasing the expression of CD23 and MHC class II. Additionally, IL-13 promotes the switching of B cells to the IgE isotype. It inhibits macrophage activity, leading to a decrease in the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines. IL-13 is crucial in the development of allergen-induced asthma, although it functions independently of IgE and eosinophils. This gene is located on chromosome 5q within a cytokine gene cluster that includes IL3, IL5, IL4, and CSF2, with IL-13 being particularly close to IL4.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized IL-13 although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution IL-13 should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C.Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized ;IL-13 in sterile 18M-cm H₂O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
