rFGF21

Alternative Names: FGF-21, Fibroblast growth factor 21.

The FGFs are a group of small secreted peptides that stimulate fibroblast proliferation. They bind to FGF receptors (FGFRs) 1, 2, or 3, except for FGFR4, which can bind but does not cause cell proliferation. FGFRs play a role in regulating glucose and lipid levels, and disruptions in FGF signaling can lead to diabetes and impaired pancreatic development. FGFR4 is also involved in cholesterol metabolism and bile acid synthesis. FGF-19 has been shown to reduce obesity and improve glucose and lipid profiles in diabetic rodents. FGF-21, primarily expressed in the liver, promotes glucose uptake in adipocytes and has beneficial effects on obesity and blood glucose levels.

Product Description

Recombinant Rat Fibroblast Growth Factor-21 (rRatFGF-21) is a protein that belongs to the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family. With a molecular weight of approximately X kDa, rRatFGF-21 plays a significant role in regulating metabolic homeostasis. This protein exhibits potent effects on glucose and lipid metabolism, making it a promising candidate for therapeutic interventions targeting metabolic disorders. Its precise mechanism of action involves activating specific signaling pathways, such as the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARα) pathways. Understanding the functions and properties of rRatFGF-21 contributes to advancements in metabolic research and potential therapeutic applications.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized FGF 21 although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution FGF 21 should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized FGF 21 Rat Recombinant in sterile 18M-cm H₂O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
