MOG - Oligodendrocyte

Alternative Names: MOG, Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein

MOG is a transmembrane protein present on the surface of oligodendrocyte cells and myelin sheaths. It constitutes about 0.1% of total myelin protein in the CNS. The MOG gene belongs to the immunoglobulin gene superfamily and is located within the MHC on chromosome 6p21.3-p22. This glycoprotein plays a role in myelinization of nerves in the CNS. The MOG peptide (35-55) is highly encephalitogenic and can elicit strong immune responses from T and B cells. When injected, this peptide causes a relapsing-remitting neurological disease with substantial demyelination resembling MS. Due to the resemblance of clinical, histopathological, and immunological features to MS, the MOG-induced demyelinating encephalomyelitis could serve as a useful model for studying MS.

Product Description

Myelin Oligodendrocyte Glycoprotein (MOG) is a protein primarily found in the central nervous system (CNS). Belonging to the immunoglobulin superfamily, MOG plays a significant role in the formation and maintenance of myelin, the protective sheath surrounding nerve fibers. With a molecular weight of approximately 26-28 kilodaltons, MOG is predominantly expressed by oligodendrocytes, the cells responsible for producing myelin in the CNS. Understanding the function and properties of MOG is crucial in comprehending the pathogenesis of demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis.

Product Guarantee

If your product is within its expiration period, and has not performed according to expectations, fill out the sample return form. Return the unused sample frozen, with the auto generated packing slip to the address on the instructions. You will receive a full refund along with a replacement of the unused portion (inclusive of the failed test). Damages do not cover any additional costs incurred for failed experimentation.

Amino Acid Sequence

H-Met-Glu-Val-Gly-Trp-Tyr-Arg-Ser-Pro-Phe-Ser-Arg-Val-Val-His-Leu-Tyr-Arg-Asn-Gly-Lys-OH.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized MOG although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution MOG should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C.For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA).Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized MOG in sterile 18MΩ-cm H2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
