LPL, HEK

Alternative Names: LPL, Lipoprotein lipase, LIPD, HDLCQ11

Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) is an enzyme expressed in various tissues including the heart, muscle, and adipose tissue. LPL functions as a homodimer with roles in triglyceride hydrolysis and facilitating the uptake of lipoproteins. Mutations in LPL can lead to Type I hyperlipoproteinemia or other disorders of lipoprotein metabolism. LPL is also secreted by macrophages and plays a role in promoting atherosclerosis by facilitating monocyte adhesion, TNF secretion, and vascular smooth muscle cell proliferation.
