Glucagon, His Tag

Alternative Names: GCG, GLP1, GLP2, GRPP, Glucagon

Glucagon, a hormone important in carbohydrate metabolism, is produced and released by alpha cells in the pancreas. It is released during low blood glucose levels, prompting the liver to convert stored glycogen into glucose. This process is oppositely regulated by insulin. Glucagon has been utilized in research involving glycogenolysis in hepatocytes and promoting DNA replication in adult rat hepatocytes when used with other factors. Additionally, glucagon plays a role in increasing blood glucose levels by breaking down liver glycogen and relaxing smooth muscle in the gastrointestinal tract.

Product Description

Recombinant Human Glucagon, His Tag is a protein belonging to the glucagon family, commonly used in research and pharmaceutical applications. With a molecular weight of approximately 3.5 kDa, this protein is produced through genetic engineering techniques, allowing for high purity and consistency in laboratory settings. The addition of a histidine tag facilitates easy purification and detection of the protein, making it a valuable tool for studying glucose metabolism and related physiological processes.

Storage Instruction

Reconstituted store at -20°C or -80°C.We recommend that single use aliquots are prepared to avoid freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

1. Thaw the vial on ice, spin briefly
2. Prepare single-use or stock aliquots. This stage will depend on your final application so please adapt as appropriate. All our proteins are supplied carrier protein-free. If compatible with your work and you are storing at lower concentrations (<50 ug/ml) adding carrier protein is highly advised (usually 1% w/v high purity BSA or equivalent – ensure all buffers are sterile-filtered).
3. Prepare single-use aliquots whenever possible to avoid freeze-thaw cycles which can damage the proteins and reduce bioactivity. Store aliquots at -70 °C (or -20 °C)
4. We recommend sterile filtering after dilution in media or the final working solution
