SDF-1 is a small cytokine in the chemokine family, also known as CXCL12. It is produced in two forms by alternate splicing of the same gene. CXCL12 is chemotactic for lymphocytes and plays a key role in cell coordination during development, directing the migration of hematopoietic cells. Mice lacking the CXCL12 gene do not survive past birth. Additionally, CXCL12 has been found in many tissues in mice. Its receptor is CXCR4, although there is evidence that it may also bind to CXCR7. The gene for CXCL12 is located on human chromosome 10 and shows high sequence identity between humans and mice.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized SDF-1b although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution CXCL12 should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized SDF-1b in sterile 18MΩ-cm H2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
