FABP2

Alternative Names: IFABP, I-FABP, FABPI, FABP-2, Fatty acid-binding protein 2, Fatty acid-binding protein intestinal, FABP2, MGC133132.

The FABP multigene family consists of around 20 members, which can be divided into three types: hepatic, intestinal, and cardiac. These types of FABPs are small proteins that weigh approximately 14-15 kDa. They play a role in the uptake, intracellular metabolism, and/or transportation of long-chain fatty acids. FABPs are also involved in regulating cell growth and proliferation. The intestinal FABP gene, known as FABP2, has a variation at codon 54 that results in either an alanine-encoding allele or a threonine-encoding allele. The threonine variant (Thr-54) is associated with increased fat oxidation and resistance. Ulcerative colitis patients with high serum levels of FABP2 often have ileitis. FABP2 also plays a role in the synthesis of triglyceride-rich lipoproteins. It has a strong affinity for saturated long-chain fatty acids, but a weaker affinity for unsaturated long-chain fatty acids. Overall, FABP2 helps maintain energy homeostasis by acting as a lipid sensor.

Product Description

Recombinant Human Fatty Acid Binding Protein-2 (FABP2) is a protein that belongs to the fatty acid binding protein family. It plays a significant role in the intracellular transport of fatty acids and their metabolism. FABP2 has a molecular weight of approximately 15 kDa and is abundantly expressed in the small intestine. This protein is involved in the absorption and utilization of dietary fatty acids, making it a crucial player in lipid metabolism. Understanding the function and structure of FABP2 can provide valuable insights into various metabolic disorders and aid in the development of therapeutic interventions.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized FABP2 although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution FABP2 should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C.For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA).Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Interleukin FABP2 in sterile 18M-cm H₂O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
