EGFP

Alternative Names: GFP, Green fluorescent protein

Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP), produced by the jellyfish Aequorea Victoria, emits green light in the visible spectrum. This protein is widely used as a fluorescent tag in the production of chimeric proteins. GFP is expressed in various cell types and serves as a noninvasive marker in living cells and organisms. It has multiple applications, including tracking cell lineage, monitoring gene expression, and measuring protein-protein interactions. Enhanced GFP (eGFP) has specific mutations that enhance its fluorescence and folding efficiency at 37°C.

Product Description

Recombinant Enhanced Green Fluorescent Protein (EGFP) is a genetically engineered variant of Green Fluorescent Protein (GFP) that exhibits enhanced fluorescence properties. Belonging to the family of fluorescent proteins, EGFP is widely utilized as a molecular marker in various biological studies and imaging techniques. With a molecular weight of approximately 27 kilodaltons, EGFP offers a convenient and reliable means to visualize and track protein expression, localization, and dynamics within living cells. Its fluorescence emission at a wavelength of 509 nanometers makes EGFP a valuable tool in fluorescence microscopy and other applications requiring precise visualization of cellular components.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized EGFP although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -180C. Upon reconstitution EGFP should be stored at 40C between 2-7 days and for future use below -180C.For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA).Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized EGFP in sterile distilled H₂O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
