CTF1, His

Alternative Names: Cardiophin 1, CTF1, CT1, CT-1

Cardiotrophin 1 (CT-1) is a member of the interleukin-6 superfamily that consists of 201 amino acids. It induces hypertrophic response in cardiac myocytes by activating the gp130 dependent signaling pathway, leading to stimulation of the Janus kinase/signal transducers and activators of transcription (JAK/STAT) pathway. CT-1 mRNA levels have been found in both cardiac myocytes and nonmyocytes, as well as in normal adult human lung and fetal and adult airway smooth muscle cells.
Additionally, CT-1 has neurotrophic functions, with CT-1 deficiency causing increased motoneuron cell death in mice during certain developmental periods. It also acts as a hepatocyte survival factor, protecting against hepatocellular damage in animal models of acute liver injury. Following hypoxic stimulation, CT-1 expression increases and offers protection to cardiac cells during simulated ischaemia/reoxygenation. Furthermore, CT-1 can induce the expression of heat shock proteins (hsps) in cardiac cells.
Moreover, Cardiotrophin-1 has been shown to increase the expression levels of various markers in the heart including ANP, BNP, and angiotensinogen mRNA. Levels of CT-1 have been significantly elevated in patients with heart failure, dilatative cardiomyopathy, mitral regurgitation, stable/unstable angina, and following acute myocardial infarction.

Storage Instruction

Store lyophilized protein at -20°C. Aliquot the product after reconstitution to avoid repeated freezing/thawing cycles. Reconstituted protein can be stored at 4°C for a limited period of time; it does not show any change after two weeks at 4°C. Store lyophilized protein at -20°C. Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to add 0.1M Acetate buffer pH-4 to prepare a working stock solution of approximately 0.5mg/ml and let the lyophilized pellet dissolve completely. For conversion into higher pH value, we recommend intensive dilution by relevant buffer to a concentration of 10?g/ml. In higher concentrations the solubility of this antigen is limited. Protein is not sterile! Please filter the product by an appropriate sterile filter before using it in the cell culture.
