CTF1

Alternative Names: Cardiotrophin-1, CT-1, CT1, CTF1, Cardiophin 1

Cardiotrophin 1 (CT-1) is a member of the interleukin-6 superfamily that induces hypertrophic response in cardiac myocytes. CT-1 mRNA is found in both cardiac myocytes and nonmyocytes, as well as in normal adult human lung and fetal and adult airway smooth muscle cells. CT-1 activates gp130 dependent signaling and the JAK/STAT pathway to transmit hypertrophic and cytoprotective signals in cardiac myocytes. CT-1 also plays a neurotrophic role and deficiency in CTF1 can lead to increased motoneuron cell death in mice. Additionally, CT-1 functions as a hepatocyte survival factor and can reduce hepatocellular damage in animal models of acute liver injury. It is upregulated after hypoxic stimulation and can protect cardiac cells during simulated ischemia and reoxygenation. CT-1 can induce the expression of heat shock proteins in cardiac cells. Furthermore, CT-1 increases the expression of ANP, BNP, and angiotensinogen mRNA in the ventricles. Elevated levels of CT-1 have been observed in patients with heart failure, dilatative cardiomyopathy, mitral regurgitation, stable and unstable angina, and after acute myocardial infarction.

Product Description

Recombinant Human Cardiotrophin-1 is a protein belonging to the interleukin-6 family, which plays a role in promoting the growth and survival of cardiac cells. With a molecular weight of approximately 21 kDa, this protein has been studied for its potential therapeutic applications in cardiovascular diseases. Recombinant Human Cardiotrophin-1 has shown promise in preclinical studies for its ability to stimulate cardiac cell proliferation and protect against cell death, making it a subject of interest in the field of regenerative medicine.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized CTF1 although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution CTF-1 should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized CTF1 in sterile 4mM HCl not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
