bProthrombin

Alternative Names: Coagulation factor II, Prothrombin, F2

Prothrombin is a vitamin K-dependent plasma protein produced in the liver. It undergoes post translational modification by vitamin K-dependent carboxylase before being secreted into the plasma. This carboxylase converts prothrombin to gamma carboxyglutamic acid by replacing 10 glutamic acid residues. Prothrombin has 2 kringle regions located at amino acid positions 40 and 270, which replace growth factor domains in various plasma serine proteases.

Product Description

Bovine prothrombin, also known as Factor II, is a protein found in the blood of cattle. It belongs to the family of serine proteases, which play a critical role in the blood clotting cascade. Bovine prothrombin has a molecular weight of approximately 72 kDa and is synthesized in the liver. As a key component of the coagulation system, it undergoes enzymatic cleavage to form thrombin, an essential enzyme involved in the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin during blood clot formation. Understanding the structure and function of bovine prothrombin contributes to the broader knowledge of hemostasis and thrombosis in both bovine and human systems.

Product Guarantee

If your product is within its expiration period, and has not performed according to expectations, fill out the sample return form. Return the unused sample frozen, with the auto generated packing slip to the address on the instructions. You will receive a full refund along with a replacement of the unused portion (inclusive of the failed test). Damages do not cover any additional costs incurred for failed experimentation.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized Bovine Prothrombin although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18C. Upon reconstitution Prothrombin should be stored at 4C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18C.For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Bovine Prothrombin in sterile 0.9% NaCl
