Batroxobin

Alternative Names: Batroxobin, Thrombin-like enzyme batroxobin, EC 3.4.21.74, BX, Bothrops atrox serine proteinase, Venombin-A.

Batroxobin is a serin protease derived from snake venom, specifically from the Bothrops Atrox snake. It has the ability to reduce fibronogen levels and is commonly used in procedures involving defibrinogenation and thrombolysis. Additionally, Batroxobin can influence the expression of the c-fos gene and growth factor. It has been found that Batroxobin can effectively inhibit the proliferation of VSMCs by interfering with the release and uptake of calcium ions, consequently affecting the calcium ion concentration within cells. Unlike thrombin, Batroxobin is not affected by substances such as heparin and hirudin. By causing the restricted release of fibrinopeptide-A from fibrinogen, Batroxobin facilitates the conversion of fibrinogen to fibrin, thus promoting blood clotting.

Product Description

Batroxobin is a serine protease enzyme derived from the venom of the snake Bothrops atrox, commonly known as the common lancehead. Belonging to the family of thrombin-like enzymes, Batroxobin plays a significant role in the coagulation cascade by directly activating factor X to factor Xa. This enzymatic protein exhibits a molecular weight of approximately 29 kilodaltons, making it a relatively compact molecule. With its ability to initiate fibrinogen clotting, Batroxobin has been extensively studied for its potential applications in various medical fields, including hemostasis and thrombosis management.
