B2M

Alternative Names: B2M, Beta-2-microglobulin

Beta 2-microglobulin is an 11 kDa protein that is associated with the outer membrane of lymphocytes and other cells. It is a small subunit of the MHC class I molecule and is necessary for the transport of class I heavy chains from the endoplasmic reticulum to the cell surface. Beta 2-microglobulin also associates with other molecules such as CD1 and Qa, as well as with the alpha chain of MHC class I molecules. Without beta 2-microglobulin, only small amounts of MHC class I molecules are found on the cell surface and CD8 T cells cannot develop. In normal individuals, small amounts of beta 2-microglobulin are present in the serum, cerebrospinal fluid, and urine. However, patients with tubular proteinaemia, renal failure, or kidney transplants have significantly higher levels of beta 2-microglobulin in their urine and plasma. Elevated levels of beta 2-microglobulin can occur due to increased synthesis or impaired renal filtration. Conditions such as AIDS, malignant monoclonal plasma cell dyscrasia, solid tumors, autoimmune diseases, renal insufficiency, graft rejection, nephrotoxicity from post-transplantation immunosuppressive therapy, multiple myeloma, and lymphomas can all lead to higher levels of beta 2-microglobulin. Long-term hemodialysis can also result in dialysis-related amyloidosis

Product Description

Recombinant Human Beta 2 Microglobulin is a protein molecule that plays a significant role in the immune system. Belonging to the family of major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC-I) molecules, it is involved in the presentation of antigens to T cells, thereby aiding in the recognition of foreign substances by the immune system. With a molecular weight of approximately 11.8 kilodaltons, this protein is of great interest in various research fields, including immunology and biotechnology.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized B2M although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution B2M should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C.For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA).Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized B2M in sterile 18MΩ-cm H2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
