Babesiosis is a disease caused by parasites of the Babesia genus. The life cycle of Babesia microti involves a rodent host, primarily the white-footed mouse, and a tick in the Ixodes genus. When a tick with Babesia infects a mouse during a blood meal, sporozoites are introduced into the mouse's blood. These sporozoites then multiply within red blood cells. In the blood, some parasites develop into male and female gametes, but they cannot be distinguished under a microscope. The tick is the definitive host for Babesia. When a tick ingests the gametes, they unite and undergo a reproductive cycle, resulting in sporozoites. Transmission from the tick to humans occurs when infected ticks bite humans and introduce sporozoites into their blood. The sporozoites then infect red blood cells and reproduce asexually. The multiplication of these parasites in the blood is responsible for the symptoms of the disease. While humans are typically dead-end hosts for Babesia, transmission between humans can occur through contaminated blood transfusions.

Product Description

Recombinant Babesia Microti p41 is a protein antigen derived from the Babesia microti parasite, which is responsible for causing babesiosis in humans. Belonging to the piroplasmida family, this protein plays a significant role in the pathogenesis of the disease. With a weight of approximately X kilodaltons, Recombinant Babesia Microti p41 has been extensively studied for its potential as a diagnostic tool and vaccine candidate against babesiosis. Its characterization and understanding contribute to the scientific understanding of this parasitic infection and aid in the development of effective control strategies.

Product Guarantee

If your product is within its expiration period, and has not performed according to expectations, fill out the sample return form. Return the unused sample frozen, with the auto generated packing slip to the address on the instructions. You will receive a full refund along with a replacement of the unused portion (inclusive of the failed test). Damages do not cover any additional costs incurred for failed experimentation.

Storage Instruction

Reconstituted store at -20°C or -80°C.We recommend that single use aliquots are prepared to avoid freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

1. Thaw the vial on ice, spin briefly
2. Prepare single-use or stock aliquots. This stage will depend on your final application so please adapt as appropriate. All our proteins are supplied carrier protein-free. If compatible with your work and you are storing at lower concentrations (<50 ug/ml) adding carrier protein is highly advised (usually 1% w/v high purity BSA or equivalent – ensure all buffers are sterile-filtered).
3. Prepare single-use aliquots whenever possible to avoid freeze-thaw cycles which can damage the proteins and reduce bioactivity. Store aliquots at -70 °C (or -20 °C)
4. We recommend sterile filtering after dilution in media or the final working solution
