Artemin

Alternative Names: ART, ARTN, EVN, NBN

The protein encoded by this gene is a part of the GDNF family of ligands, which belong to the TGF-beta superfamily of signaling molecules. GDNFs have unique neurotrophic properties and are being considered for gene therapy in neurodegenerative diseases. Artemin has been shown to support the survival of various peripheral neuron populations and certain dopaminergic CNS neurons in culture. Its expression pattern near these neurons further supports its role in the PNS and CNS. This protein functions as a ligand for the RET receptor and requires GFR-alpha 3 as a coreceptor. There are four described alternatively spliced transcripts, two of which produce the same protein.

Product Description

Recombinant Human Artemin is a protein belonging to the glial cell line-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) family. It plays a role in the development and maintenance of the nervous system. This protein has a molecular weight of approximately 15 kDa. Recombinant Human Artemin is commonly used in research studies to investigate its effects on neuronal growth and survival.

Storage Instruction

Lyophilized Artemin although stable at room temperature for 3 weeks, should be stored desiccated below -18°C. Upon reconstitution Artemin Human Recombinant should be stored at 4°C between 2-7 days and for future use below -18°C. For long term storage it is recommended to add a carrier protein (0.1% HSA or BSA). Please prevent freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

It is recommended to reconstitute the lyophilized Artemin in sterile 18MΩ-cm H2O not less than 100µg/ml, which can then be further diluted to other aqueous solutions.
