ALDH1A1

Alternative Names: ALDC, Aldehyde dehydrogenase cytosolic, Aldehyde dehydrogenase family 1 member A1, ALDH1, ALDH11, ALDH-E1, ALHDII, MGC2318, PUMB1, RalDH1, RALDH1, RALDH 1, Retinal dehydrogenase 1, ALDH1A1.

ALDH1A1, a member of the aldehyde dehydrogenases family, is involved in the second step of the alcohol metabolism pathway. This enzyme exists in two main liver isoforms, cytosolic and mitochondrial, which can be distinguished by their electrophoretic mobility, kinetic properties, and subcellular localization. Caucasians typically have both isoforms, while around half of Orientals only have the cytosolic form. Additionally, ALDH1A1 is a corneal crystallin that plays a role in maintaining the transparency of the cornea by catalyzing the conversion of retinal to retinoate in the presence of NAD+ and H2O to form NADH.

Product Description

Recombinant Human Aldehyde Dehydrogenase 1A1 is a member of the aldehyde dehydrogenase family, specifically the ALDH1A subfamily. With a molecular weight of approximately 55 kDa, this enzyme plays a key role in the oxidation of aldehydes to carboxylic acids, contributing to the metabolism of numerous endogenous and exogenous compounds. Its high specificity for retinaldehyde makes it a valuable tool in the study of retinoic acid signaling pathways and the regulation of gene expression.

Storage Instruction

Reconstituted store at -20°C or -80°C.We recommend that single use aliquots are prepared to avoid freeze-thaw cycles.

Sample Prep Instruction

1. Thaw the vial on ice, spin briefly
2. Prepare single-use or stock aliquots. This stage will depend on your final application so please adapt as appropriate. All our proteins are supplied carrier protein-free. If compatible with your work and you are storing at lower concentrations (<50 ug/ml) adding carrier protein is highly advised (usually 1% w/v high purity BSA or equivalent – ensure all buffers are sterile-filtered).
3. Prepare single-use aliquots whenever possible to avoid freeze-thaw cycles which can damage the proteins and reduce bioactivity. Store aliquots at -70 °C (or -20 °C)
4. We recommend sterile filtering after dilution in media or the final working solution
